πŸ„ level-setting

Hey heeeyyy Reader,

A lot has happened in my life since my last email to you last week.

My intention for this past week's newsletter was to tell you how our supervisor responded to the changing schedules situation and how her response was a missed opportunity for trust-building for the purpose of you learning how to not miss out on those moments with your teams and supervisees buuuuuuttt I didn't have it in me to send that email.

Today begins a new week and I want to do some level-setting around where I'm at personally and professionally so that you know where this bus is going if you continue to ride with me.

⏸️ Before I get into it, I want to pause and say that I am nothing, if not transparent, so if you're new around here, you might be put off by this level of honestly but if you been rocking with me for a while, this level of transparency should not surprise you ⏸️

Right now, I've got a lot of things that are taking up my time and energy like:

  1. RUPTURE + REPAIR: I'm currently in the middle of a relationship rupture that I have caused and I'm working on being accountable to it. I'm in the process of learning how to rebuild trust with myself and this other person. (I'm pretty skilled at building and deepening trust but I have less experience with building trust after I've broken it so you can imagine that this work is going to ask a lot of me).
  2. COACHING CAPACITY: I'm nearing my capacity of working with 1:1 clients and the last spot I have open will likely be filled in a few months after I meet with this person and we pass the vibes and values check. One of the perks of working with me 1:1 is that you get unlimited access to me via Voxer Walkie Talkie which means when shit pops off in your life (day or night), you can have me in your corner helping you keep it the fuck together. If I want to give my best to these nonprofit disruptors, then I need to be discerning about what else I take on.
  3. MARKETING CAPACITY: I've had the pleasure of supporting the marketing and communications of the Tribal Funding Registry for over 6 months and after doing all of that, I really don't have the energy or desire to do my own marketing (even though I'm really good at it and it is something I enjoy).
  4. STRETCHING MY CARE CAPACITY: This year, I am embracing my identity as a polyamorous person which means I'm gonna be outside outside more and if I'm outside, I will have less time for inside things which leads to the level-setting...

What I will stop doing in this season of my life

  • Worrying about marketing my business services or trying to get clients. In order to do the above things well, that means something has got to go or decrease. I don't want my energy or attention to be sucked out worrying about posting on Instagram, Threads or LinkedIn. So if you mostly interact with me on those social platforms, you likely won't be seeing me or my work there as much.

What I will start/ continue doing in this season of my life

  • Loving and being loved (thank you to all of you who have showed up for me or offered an ear at this time --- I feel so loved by ya'll and I want to make sure I show care for you in return by limiting the amount people/places/things I'm engaging in).
  • Only emailing when I have something inspiring, affirming, or thought-provoking to say to you that I think will help you reclaim your voice as power, spark meaningful change and embrace your authentic identity and ideas via this newsletter. Sometimes that might mean weekly emails, and other times it might mean biweekly or whatever every 3 weeks is. I don't know yet. But if you want to hear what I've got going on, you'll be the first (and maybe only folks to know via these emails).
  • Doing on-off events, trainings and group experiences. I know we're entering some shaky ground as a collective so I want to be open to the short-term opportunities there are for us to prepare and not lose ourselves in it. If your nonprofit is looking for social justice facilitators, check out the Liberatory Leadership Workshops for Organizations page.
  • Returning to YouTube as my main point of educating and engaging. I started my YouTube channel over the summer and was able to keep the momentum into the fall and then fell off. I'm not sure when I'm gonna get back on but I will. Join me over there if you'd like and enjoy the 10+ videos on sharing feedback that is consent-based, trauma-aware and generative.

Dassit for me.

Q: If you feel moved to share what you are stopping, starting or continuing to do in this season of your life, I'd love to hear it.

Talk to you whenever I've got a thing worthy of saying ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽

I help BIPOC and LGBTQ+ nonprofit leaders reclaim their voice as power, be unapologetic in their identity and ideas and spark meaningful change (even when self-doubt may be getting in the way).

My specialty is in bridging the gap between personal change and systems change by weaving an anti-oppression lens, healing tools and playful possibility into WHO we are and HOW we lead.
